Not surprised at Haggen closures

When I read that the Haggen grocery chain decided to close many of their California stores, after just acquiring them a few months ago, two things came to mind:

It’s no surprise. Customers have seen the higher prices compared to the Albertsons and Vons stores they took over and voted with their feet. Go into the Haggen store on Lindero Canyon and the place is virtually empty of customers. I’m surprised that this store hasn’t yet been slated to be shut.

Haggen’s management has clearly shown they have no idea what they’re doing, and they’ve played with people’s lives as a result.

Haggen laid off hundreds of people, individuals who presumably had some amount of job security when they worked for Vons or Albertsons, and now they’re out of work because of incompetent management.

Haggen’s executives should be ashamed of themselves.
