Not enough hours by LVUSD

I understand why the LVUSD administration and school board wanted to return our high school kids to school with caution. Even though the schedule was confusing and resulted in significantly decreased instruction time, I gave the administration the benefit of the doubt.

However, I have now seen the proposed plan for mid-April and it’s shameful. While students all around us in all the nearby schools are receiving in-person school at least half-time, LVUSD high school students will be moving from three to six hours per week of instruction to a whopping six to nine hours per week. What is the reasoning behind this?

L.A. County is or soon will be in the orange tier and everything is opening—except our secondary schools. Why are LVUSD students getting such a raw deal?

If all of these surrounding schools have figured out how to safely bring kids and teachers back to school for a meaningful amount of instruction, why can’t LVUSD?

As always, if parents don’t feel safe sending their kids to school, they don’t have to. For those of us who believe in-person learning and interaction with peers is critically important for our teens, this plan falls woefully short.
