Not a done deal

Once again, the Agoura/Oak Park/Conejo Valley Chamber of Commerce has used its advertising to purposefully disseminate civic disinformation.

This week’s topic du jour is the Heschel West School.

Their prominently displayed banner honors Rick Wentz who they proclaim “spearheaded approval of the new day school to be built in Agoura.” It fails to mention that cursory approval came with a plethora of conditions, many, if not most of which are monumental if not insurmountable, and that the school can only be built if and when these conditions are met.

Additionally, the ad calls Todd August “the head of the economics department at UCLA.” Mr. August does not hold a PhD but rather a bachelor of arts degree from CSUN and is an administrator, not the head of economics.

Here again, we have the chamber attempting to give the impression that the Agoura Hills City

Council, which unambiguously opposes the project as proposed, and the residents of Old Agoura, who stand unanimously in opposition, have no voice and thus the project is a slam dunk. This may play well to nave financial contributors, but it has no veracity.

The site chosen by Heschel is grossly inappropriate and this issue is likely to be decided in court. Larry Brown Agoura Hills
