Nominations open for Golden Acorn Awards

The Community Foundation for Oak Park is seeking nominations for its 2012 Golden Acorn Award, which honors residents of Oak Park who volunteer their time and efforts to benefit their community.

Recipients are dedicated to serving the community without seeking rewards. The deadline for submissions is Aug. 20.

Established in 1979, the nonprofi t community foundation supports volunteer efforts within the community and also serves as a tax-exempt umbrella organization for charitable groups and donordefi ned funds. A board of trustees comprising 10 local residents meets quarterly to oversee the foundation’s programs and funds.

Criteria for the Golden Acorn award include being an Oak Park resident during the period the service was rendered, providing service without pay, and demonstrating a willingness to continue to serve Oak Park in the future.

Service should be multifaceted, not in only one area. Previous recipients have included Oak Park residents Ron Stark, David Ross, Steve Iceland and Harvey Kern.

Nominations should be in the form of a letter to the president of the community foundation, to the Oak Park Community Foundation (P. O. Box 291, Agoura, CA 91376-0291). The letter should summarize the candidate’s community service and indicate why that person should be honored.

The award will be presented at a future public event.

The Golden Acorn award is not affiliated with the Acorn Newspapers
