No such thing as a free ride

A man who allegedly stole a car from a Calabasas dealership was arrested Dec. 29 when the vehicle became damaged in an accident and he tried to get it repaired.

Francisco Flores of North Hollywood walked into a Los Angeles police station to report that his car sustained damage in an apparent hit-and-run accident. But when police ran a routine check of the vehicle’s identification number they discovered it had been stolen from the Calabasas dealer.

On Sept. 30, Flores saw a 2007 Acura TL that he wanted to buy, according to the Lost Hills Sheriff’s Station. Flores made his purchase, wrote a check for the deposit and drove the vehicle off the lot.

But the dealer discovered the check was written on a closed account. After attempting to repossess the vehicle for two months, the dealership filed a stolen car report with the Lost Hills station.

Flores, 27, was detained at the North Hollywood police station where the Lost Hills detectives came and arrested him.

Flores was booked on $20,000 bail and his arraignment was scheduled for Jan. 3.
