No fun for Fido at recent auction

I was disgusted to read in the March 25 Acorn
that at the Islands in the Sun benefit auction and fundraiser to benefit St. Jude the Apostle School, a Labrador puppy was one of the items up for bid at the live auction. In fact, it mentioned in the article that the puppy wriggled out of his collar during the fundraiser.

People who bid on and “win” puppies on the spur of the moment often do not take into consideration the many responsibilities involved. Many people acquire a dog or cat without much thought, as if the animal is nothing more than a toy, and then find that they don’t want to spend the time and money, don’t have the patience, or don’t want the responsibilities that come with caring for animals.

People still don’t get that these are living creatures, not a vacation or item to be auctioned off.
