Nice to offer a helping hand

Last summer, while driving home on Kanan Road, I noticed a middle-aged woman walking who appeared to be extremely tired and struggling with the heat. I made eye contact with her and asked if she was going to the bus stop and needed a ride. She said, “Yes please” with a huge smile of relief.

During the drive, she told me that she was a housekeeper in the neighborhood and that her feet and body ached after a long day of work. When we reached the bus stop, she thanked me and said how much she appreciated my help.

Since that time, I have often provided transportation to women who needed a ride to a bus stop on Thousand Oaks Boulevard. These women are housekeepers or day workers and must use public transportation to get home. They are dedicated people who assist our neighbors with various household chores but cannot afford to live in our area. I have never failed to receive appreciation for providing this service and I feel good about making someone’s journey a little easier.

If you are a woman driving in our neighborhood in the early morning or late afternoon, please consider offering a ride to these hard working people who are probably facing a very long bus ride home. Linda Le Vine Agoura Hills
