New teen center fills community need

The opening of Chabad’s new Chai Teen Center has filled a void in the community, according to Rabbi Yitzchak Sapochkinsky, the center’s director. "We haven’t just created a program. We’ve created a real ‘home away from home’ for these kids."

The teen center offers weekly classes and activities plus one special lecture per month. It has been met "with tremendous enthusiasm in the community" according to Sapochkinsky.

A three-part series on "Relationships" begins Nov. 20. Topics to be discussed include defining what a relationship is, how to be a good friend, relating to members of the opposite gender, dealing with peer pressure. Series instructors are Rabbis Shlomo Bistritzky, Eli Broner and Dov Greenberg.

A Friday night dinner and Shabbaton will be held Nov. 16 to 17. There is a weekly Teen Scene where teens have an opportunity to meet new friends, play in the game room and participate in TV-style game shows. There’s no charge and no reservations required to participate in Teen Scene.
