New standards spread across U.S.

Las Virgenes Unified School District is gearing up for new educational standards. The shift is expected to breathe new life into the way teachers teach, students learn and the state assesses student success.
Common Core State Standards, also called “Next Generation Assessment” and “Smarter Balance,” will replace the Standardized Testing and Reporting (STAR) system in California in 2013-14. The new standards are expected to better prepare students for college and careers.
