Dr. Gary A. Dickey

Gary Alan Dickey, Ph.D., will be welcomed as the new senior pastor at the 8, 9 and 10:30 a.m. worship services on Sun., July 13 at United Methodist Church, 1049 S. Westlake Blvd., Westlake Village.

The casual 8 a.m. service includes communion and meets in Alton Hall. The Chancel Choir will sing at 9 and 10:30 a.m.

Sunday School classes for all ages meet at 9 a.m. Care for infants and young children is provided at 9 and 10:30 a.m.

Prior to his appointment, Dickey, 57, served the Canoga Park UMC for the past 13 years. He replaces senior pastor Rob Calderhead, now at La Canada UMC.

Among his degrees are a M.Div. in theology from Fuller Theological Seminary; a D. Min. in New Testament theology from Claremont School of Theology; and a Ph.D. in church administration from Trinity Seminary, Canterbury, Christ Church College, England.

"One of the themes of the church I like to see is ‘Every Member a Minister,’" said Dickey.

"Every one of us is a minister and I believe every one of us has a calling and I believe every one of us has gifts to share—and without those gifts we can’t be the church. The church is never the minister."
