New law bans religious exemption for school vaccinations

‘This is a very emotional and difficult issue,’ one lawmaker said


MAKING A POINT—The right to object on religious grounds is outweighed by health risks, the law says.
A law that bars religious and other personal-belief exemptions from school vaccinations received majority approval in the state Assembly last week and was signed into law Tuesday by Gov. Jerry Brown.
The legislation goes into effect one year from now, but opponents are threatening to appeal it on grounds that parents should retain the right to choose what’s best for their children.
