New concert fest to put on a happy face


The Rotary Club of Simi Sunrise, founder of the Cajun and Blues Music Festival, will debut a new music event, the Happy Face Music Festival, from 1 to 7 p.m. Sat., May 28 at Rancho Santa Susana Community Park, 5005 E. Los Angeles Ave., Simi Valley.

The festival will feature four live bands. The headliner is Mike Campbell, 11-time Grammy Award nominee, guitarist and songwriter for Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers,

Campbell and his band, The Dirty Knobs, are currently opening for The Who.

The other performers in Simi Valley are Sam Morrow, Hardcastle and Kelly’s Lot.

Located in the community known for Happy Face Hill, organizers describe the festival as the event marking the beginning of summer in Simi Valley.

Attendees can bring blankets and lawn chairs for seating.

Local food truck vendors at the event will include Simi Valley Chick-fil-A, Wienerschnitzel, Cousin’s BBQ and Makenna Koffee.

Tickets to the festival are $50 and include bottomless beer, wine tasting, water and other beverages. Parking is free.

Tickets sales are limited to 2,000 patrons.

Happy Face is the first major music event presented by the Sunrise Rotary Club since pandemic restrictions ensued.

The club is a charitable organization, and 100% of festival proceeds will benefit dozens of local charities and international causes.
