New Boys & Girls Club facility to celebrate KidsDay

Supported by the Boys & Girls Clubs of America, KidsPeace and other organizations have celebrated National KidsDay on the first Sunday of August since the inaugural event in 2001.

The theme for the KidsDay is "share a moment, create a memory, make a KidsDay."

Boys & Girls Clubs of Conejo and Las Virgenes will host a celebration from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Mon., Aug. 4 at Los Cerritos Middle School, 2100 E. Avenida de los Flores, T.O.

Youth not currently members of the Club may participate in Club activities from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Family activities will begin at 4:30 p.m. and include a parent/child pool and chess tournament, Moon Bounce, ping pong, family bingo and a hot dog barbecue. Parents may register Los Cerritos students in the fall before-and-after school program.

In conjunction with National KidsDay, Boys & Girls Clubs of America and KidsPeace conduct annual research to identify current societal trends in how adults and children spend their time together. U.S. parents and children agree they want to spend meaningful time together, but tend to disagree on the definition of meaningful.

As a result, National KidsDay partners developed the First Annual Meaningful Time Check-up on U.S. Children and Families, which will be released shortly. The survey is designed to examine how parents and children interact.

The results will be made available at www.kidsday.net and the country’s top child experts and youth organizations are urging all parents to begin taking the annual survey to determine how they can create meaningful time with their children.
