New activities for annual City Celebration


 

The 17th annual Westlake Village City Celebration returns from 3 to 8 p.m. Sat., Oct. 19 at the Westlake Village Civic Center, 31200 Oak Crest Drive.

Event parking will be available at 31051 Agoura Road.

The White Oak Family Fun Fair returns with rides like the Zipper, swing chairs, pirate ship, a traditional Ferris Wheel, carousel, inflatables and a giant slide.

Unlimited ride bracelets are $35. Individual ride tickets are $4. One ticket equals one ride. Proceeds support the school.

Residents can drop off cans or boxes of food for Manna food bank at the collection tables near the event entrance. Girl Scouts will collect the food.

The first 100 participants to bring two or more cans each will receive a prize.

New this year is an inflatable haunted house for teens and 1980s-themed lounge area for high school students with games like giant Jenga, Connect 4, giant checkers and bean bag toss.

The haunted house is only for ages 13 and above. It is not recommended for those who do not like being scared.

All participants must have a signed waiver. Youths under 18 years of age must have parent or guardian signature.

To fill out the waiver ahead of time, download it at wlv.org/citycelebration and bring the form to the event. Waivers will also be available at the event.

The Friends of the Westlake Village Library will sponsor a free magic show featuring magician Arty Loon at 6 p.m. in the City Council Chambers.

The Yarrow Family YMCA will demonstrate their Zumba, K-pop and hip-hop classes on the dance floor from 3 to 6 p.m.

The dance floor will remain open all evening for people to come and go as they please.

YMCA membership information about the newly-opened facility will be available.

The city will sponsor free activities including balloon animals, face painting, a photo booth, sheriff and fire departments meet ‘n’ greet area, Captain Carl’s Mobile Tide Pool, an arcade room and interactive tables.

Create Studios will host an arts and crafts booth with free activities for residents of all ages.

Polis and Associates will hand out materials on recycling.

Food trucks will be on site.

Tables for dining will be available around the dance floor and in the back patio.

Local brewing companies and wineries will have wine and craft beer for sale in the lounge area in the back terrace.

Dinner and drink purchases will support the Westlake Village Community Foundation.

Food, beer and wine will be for sale from 3 to 8 p.m.

Residents can drop off documents for secure shredding at the event’s parking lot area, across the street from the Westlake Village Civic Center.

Shredding is limited to three boxes per family. Document shredding will be from 3 to 6 p.m.
