National Arbor Day Foundation publishes free identification book





The National Arbor Day Foundation has published a pocket guide for identifying trees called “What Tree Is That?”

The 84-page guide provides information on identifying 157 different trees found in the western U.S.

Well-known trees such as oaks, maples, firs and pines are included, as well as golden chinkapin, peachleaf willow, redbuds, redcedar, sycamore, saltcedar, sequoia and spruce.

Dozens of drawings illustrate leaves, needles, acorns, berries, seed pods, cones and other treeidentifying features. The guide is organized to make tree identifican quick and simple.

“Helping people enjoy and appreciate trees is central to the educational mission of the Arbor Day Foundation,” said foundation president John Rosenow. “Being able to identify trees is important to knowing how to care for them and how to plant the right tree in the right place.”
