Moorpark College gets festive

A variety of campus activities celebrate the holidays


Moorpark College at 7075 Campus Road will present these special events in December in the campus Performing Arts Center.

Tickets are $15 general and $10 student, senior and staff. Advance tickets are discounted 20 percent is purchased online.

Campus parking is $2 daily from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays and free on weekends and evenings.

•Original student one acts written, directed and acted by students will be presented at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 2, 3, 7, 8, 9 and 10, and 1:30 p.m. Dec. 7.

The plays contain mature content.

•The “All About Jazz” concert will be at 8 p.m. Sat., Dec. 10.

The college Jazz A Band, Studio Jazz Band and Vocal Jazz Ensemble will perform along with jazz pianist Josh Nelson as guest soloist.

•The Moorpark College Community Orchestra and Wind Ensemble will present the “Joyous Sounds” Concert at 2 p.m. Sun., Dec. 11.

The groups will perform music from a wide variety of styles showcasing local musicians.

•Moorpark College Dance Students give a performance of various dance styles and levels at 7 p.m. Dec. 19, 20 and 21.

Holiday Lights event

The inaugural Moorpark College “ Holiday Lights” event will take place from 2 to 6:30 p.m. Sat., Dec. 3 on the campus grounds, 7075 Campus Road.

The event will have a holiday fair for shopping, food, music and children’s area.

At 5:30 p.m., thousands of holiday lights will illuminate the grounds. Residents can sponsor a single light or a string of lights. Donations will benefit student scholarships.

The Moorpark College Symphony Orchestra, directed by James Song, and the Choral Music Program, directed by Vail Keck, will present a free holiday concert at 7 p.m. at the Performing Arts Center. Seating is first come, first served.

The concert will include selections from “The Nutcracker.”

Arctic Lights event

America’s Teaching Zoo at Moorpark College will present “Arctic Lights” from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sat. and Sun., Dec. 3 and 4 at the campus zoo.

This event will have includes holiday-themed animal shows, children’s activities, baked goods and raffle prizes. Real snow will be brought in on Sat., Dec. 3.

The cost is $5 for adults $5 and $4 for children ages 2 to 12 and seniors. Children under 2 years are free.
