The Moorpark Acorn has been honored as Business of the Year by that city’s Chamber of Commerce. The Chamber presented its awards at the Moorpark Country Club last Friday night. Accepting the award for the Acorn Newspapers were owners Jim and Lisa Rule, and Steve Carlson, editor of the Moorpark Acorn.

The Moorpark Acorn was honored for its community involvement and coverage of city events.

Bill Stack, owner of It’s a Grind Coffee House in the Moorpark Marketplace, was honored as Businessman of the Year. Stack’s coffee house has served Moorpark for nearly three years. Stack was praised for his participation in helping schools and nonprofit organizations.

A record number of 168 guests filled the sold-out banquet room. The awards were presented during dinner.

Other awards included a Lifetime Achievement award given to High Street’s Cactus Patch Restaurant owners, Luis and Joan Martinez, for their years of helping other businesses and needy residents of Moorpark. The Chamber’s Ambassador of the Year award went to Jerri Hatzenbiler, owner of Zen Garden Massage Therapy of Moorpark.
