Mixed signals received on radiation issue

It was only a matter a time before someone would write in to “enlighten” those of us fighting the LCMS cell tower. Thanks, Mr. Cassel, for letting me know that the tiny cellphone I hold to my ear is more dangerous than a huge cell tower in the middle of my neighborhood. I actually knew that, since there is a group of us who has read almost every scientific study on this over the past two years.

Yes, Mr. Cassel, cellphones, wireless networks and upcoming smart meters all emit more radiation than a cell tower. So two questions remain. One is which scientific studies you choose to believe about long-term exposure to such radiation—a vast array of studies will allow you any point of view you want.

The other is, with all this exposure, why the LVUSD would choose to add to radiation levels with growing minds and bodies underfoot.

This was never about paranoia or ignorance. We actually know more about this issue than you likely do, Mr. Cassel. It was about a science that is less than a generation old being placed in an inappropriate spot through a wildly unfair process.

Thanks to our group, some of that process has changed—the LVUSD administration can no longer approve such towers with the stroke of a pen. However, the elected board of education has shown that they also are not concerned about public furor over this.

Ultimately, the school district as landlord has the choice to lease the land. Families living near Willow, Sumac, White Oak and the like should watch the LVUSD agendas closely, since your neighborhood schools would likely be next.

And those who patronize T-Mobile should judge them by their ethics. They trounced the city of Agoura Hills in court, even though the city worked honestly and diligently to find them a better location that offered better coverage, less blight and lower rent.

It was the city of Agoura Hills, not T-Mobile or the LVUSD, who lived by their words and truly represented those of us they all claim to serve. Deborah Lopez Agoura Hills
