A coast live oak nicknamed Mr. Oaks occupies a wild slope above the far corner of my rural Agoura backyard. That’s probably the origin of this tree’s hard-luck status. No matter how you tilt your head, there’s no alleviating the sharp slant Mr. Oaks is growing at on the slope.
Mr. Oaks’ further misfortune includes growing in the shadow of another, more robust, coast live oak whose sprawling canopy intercepts much sunlight.
As if that wasn’t tough enough, several towering pines and sycamor...
