Mildred “Millie” Berger


 

 

Mildred, “Millie” Berger passed away on March 1, 2018, at her home, surrounded by family and friends. She is survived by her husband, Edward, daughters, Kathy Schaeffer and Annette Berger, four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Mildred was born in Bell, California. She attended Bishop Conaty High School and later earned her Bachelors and Masters degrees from UCLA. Before going into education, Mildred worked for Prudential Life Insurance Company in Los Angeles.

Upon earning her teaching credential, she taught for Las Virgenes Unified School District at White Oak Elementary School. She was a beloved elementary teacher, and was selected by her peers to go to Washington, D.C. to accept White Oak School’s first Blue Ribbon Award. She was recognized as Teacher of the Year for LVUSD in 1987. After retirement, Mildred enjoyed traveling, spending time with grandchildren dren and great-grandchildren, and volunteering with Friends of the Library at Platt Library.

She will be remembered for her unwavering loyalty and generous spirit.

She was a strong woman who treated everyone with dignity and respect. Her legacy will continue to be an inspiration.

A celebration of life will be held from 2:00-3:00 PM on Friday, March 23, at Pierce Brothers Valley Oaks Memorial Park, Chapel of the Oaks, in Westlake Village. Memorial contributions may be made to CASA of Ventura County, casaofventuracounty.org.
