“Heroes of Freedom” was the theme of the 18th annual Calabasas Shul Menorah Lighting and Hanukkah Celebration Dec. 9 at The Commons shopping center in Calabasas. A crowd of adults and children attended the festivities, which featured live music and complimentary latkes and donuts. Candles were lit on a large menorah.

Standing in front of a large banner displaying the Israeli and American flags and the words “Heroes of Freedom,” Rabbi Yakov Vann recognized members of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, the West Valley representatives of the Los Angeles Police Department and the California Highway Patrol for their commitment and bravery in keeping the local community safe in turbulent times.

The hour-long festivities concluded with a fireworks show.
