Meditation class at Buddhist open house




The Tushita Kadampa Buddhist Center will celebrate its third anniversary with an open house on Sat., March 15 at the Water Court in Westlake Village, Ste. I, 910 Hampshire Road.

The spiritual center has been part of the community for six years and relocated to Westlake after outgrowing the previous location in Thousand Oaks.

Below is the open house schedule:

9:30 to 10:30 a.m.: Chanted meditation

11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.: Free workshop on the art of meditation

1 to 2 p.m.: Vegetarian potluck dinner with free kid’s magic show

2: to 2:30 p.m.: Tour of the meditation hall

3 to 3:30 p.m.: The life of Buddha Shakyamuni

3:30 to 4 p.m.: Guided breathing meditation

In conjunction with the open house, the center is also sponsoring a food drive for Manna, the local food bank, for a second year. Guests are asked to bring canned and dry goods to donate for neighbors in need.

The center offers a variety of meditation classes that are suitable for both beginners and those more experienced in meditation.

Every Sunday from 11 a.m. to 12:15 p.m., adults attend Prayers for World Peace in the Meditation Hall while youngsters ages 3 to 10 go to Dharma for Kids. A teens class is also available.

The Lunchtime Meditation classes run from 12:15 to 1 p.m. weekdays.

The Tushita Kadampa Buddhist Center is one of 1,100 centers worldwide founded by the Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso, an author and internationally renowned Buddhist teacher.

Gyatso teaches the importance of meditation, how to apply it in modern daily life, and how to cultivate a good heart for the benefit of others.

Resident teacher Rebecca Gauthier studied with Gyatso. Gauthier and has been teaching for more than 20 years.
