Meatballs the food of choice at Swedish fest

LITTLE SLIDERS—Guests at the Scandinavian Hostmarknad can help judge the meatball contest Oct. 22 at Vasa Park in Agoura Hills.

Vasa Park Association of Southern California will host the annual Scandinavian Hostmarknad/ Fall Market and Swedish Meatball Contest from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sun., Oct. 22 at the park at 2854 Triunfo Canyon Road, Agoura Hills. The event is open to the public.

Activities will include swimming, water-sliding, an Alpine tube slide, bounce house, rock climbing wall and gem mining for youths.

Cultural entertainment will include folk dancing, educational vendors, Viking Living History Reenactors and the L.A. Kubb Association of Southern California with kubb, an ancient Viking game.

The Fall Market will feature Scandinavian vendors with specialty merchandise and other sellers. The food court will also have Scandinavian items and vendors serving breakfast, lunch and fika—sweets and coffee.

The meatball contest judging is open to the public and the winners will be the people’s choice. The judging will start at noon. Tickets are $5 per judging plate with a variety of meatballs, mashed potatoes, gravy and lingonberries. First-, second- and third-place winners will receive cash prizes and bragging rights. First place will also get a trophy.

Parking is $10 per car load, $5 for Vasa members, with full access to the park’s activities.
