Measure E makes sense

Measure E
makes sense

Twenty-five years ago, I moved to California from Toledo, Ohio, as a widower with my two young sons. We were privileged to own a home in the Las Virgenes Unified School District. My sons attended White Oak Elementary and Lindero Canyon Middle School and they both graduated from Agoura High School. Their strong public school education, both through academic as well as extracurricular activities, laid the foundation for their future successes at the university and graduate school levels. One of my sons is a physician and the other, a law school graduate.

I have since remarried and my wife and I are blessed to have twin girls, both of whom now attend White Oak Elementary School. In some ways, I feel it is déjà vu all over again. However, things are different now.

Classes are more congested, the teachers are overwhelmed, and there is a need for new staff and equipment. The present financial crisis threatens the quality of our schools.

I feel that Measure E will help us address the current dilemma. We must raise funds for our local schools to provide the best for our children and protect our values. I understand that raising funds is only part of the solution. As a practicing physician and a member of the clinical faculty at UCLA, I, along with my wife, who is course director at USC Dental School, clearly value and understand the importance of education. We will give our utmost effort to help our schools. We encourage everyone, parents and grandparents, to vote yes on Measure E. We strongly believe that this is one of the best investments that we can make for the future of our children and the community.
