Mayor Broomand has diverse background

Iraj Broomand was elected to serve a four-year term as a member of the Westlake Village City Council in November 1997.  He took his oath of office on Dec. 3, 1997. He was selected to serve as mayor last December.


His resume includes a background as president and executive director of Stirling/Intergate, Inc.


A licensed psychologist, Broomand was born in Iran and received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Kansas State College of Pittsburgh and his Ph.D. in psychology of behavioral disabilities from the University of Wisconsin in 1971. 


He then served at the University of Wisconsin’s Human Development Center while holding the rank of assistant professor.  


In 1975, he accepted the position of National Director of Gifted Programs in Iran, and returned to the U.S.––more specifically to Westlake Village––in 1979 with his wife, Carol, and two children, Hita and Hooshie.  He started his community involvement with the incorporation efforts and continued his activities, among other things, as a founding member of the Las Virgenes Educational Program.


He’s an active in a variety of -professional organizations.
