MARVIN EDWARD SCHULHOF, 80, resident of Westlake Village since 1968, died May 22, 2017 with his family by his side.

He had been fighting a hardf ight for quite some time and fought with strength and grace. He was a warrior and conquered three different cancers during three decades. He didn’t talk about his scrapes and bruises, he just made every day count and stuck around as long as he could for his family.

Born in Chicago, Illinois, May 18, 1937, the son of Alois and Margaret (Johnson) Schulhof, he moved to California at the age of 14 months. Marv graduated from Van Nuys High School, attended Pierce College and then received a baseball scholarship to Loyola University where he earned his Engineering and MBA degrees. In 1958, Marv married the love of his life, Joie. They were together for 62 years and their love for each other never faded.

Marv was a man of integrity, character and kindness. He was a loving, supportive and devoted father, grandfather and role model.

Marv brought people together, he was the connective tissue between people that had lost touch with each other. He has adopted and embraced many souls during his lifetime, helped them through challenges and troubled times and gave them love, loyalty and a solid lifelong friendship. Many have adopted him as a father, mentor and valued confidant. He has given so many the support, love and respect that they needed. We are incredibly proud of him.

Patience, compassion, empathy, solid values, generosity, loyalty, and the ability to accept people for who they are, forgive them and find the goodness in all are all highly admirable traits, Marv is exceptional as he possessed all of these. What cannot be forgotten is his humor. He pulled many legs of both friends and strangers with his dry wit and evoked smiles and laughter from all who crossed his path.

Marv is survived by his wife, Joie (Le Gros) Schulhof, sister Elaine, daughter Kylie, son Mike and granddaughter Linnea.

Thank you to Dr. Ashouri, Dr. Himsl, Dr. Miller, Dr. Sanders, and the Buena Vista Hospice staff for your compassionate care and support.
