Man’s body discovered in Malibu Canyon

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department is trying to identify a man’s body that was found May 16 in a drainage ditch at the 1600 block of Las Virgenes Canyon Road south of Calabasas.

A call came into the Lost Hills Sheriff’s Station just before noon. The man was found unresponsive and wearing only his underwear. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

“Deputies responded out there and located a body in the ditch, where (a) passerby had reported it,” Lieutenant Scott Hogland of the L.A. County Sheriff’s Department Homicide Bureau said.

It is not known if the death occurred at the location or how long it had had been there–or if the body was moved there from somewhere else, Hogland said.

Investigators were on the scene until late in the evening gathering evidence. The investigation is ongoing and the victim’s identity and exact cause of death will be determined by the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner at a later date.
