Man commits insurance fraud

Ronald Berlinsky, 58, of Westlake Village, has pled guilty to one count of felony auto insurance fraud.

On May 23, 2003 Berlinsky reported to police that his 2000 Ford Expedition was stolen. He claimed he parked his car in front of his house the night before and when he woke up the next morning it was gone. Later that day, he made a claim to his insurance company, Liberty Mutual, for the “stolen” vehicle.

The Ventura County Sheriff’s Department learned from the U.S. Border Patrol on May 27 that Berlinsky’s car crossed into Mexico the night of May 20, two days before Berlinsky claimed he last saw his vehicle parked at his residence.

The car was eventually found in Ensenada, Mexico and brought back to the U.S. for a forensic examination.

Berlinsky faces a maximum penalty of five years in state prison and up to $50,000 in fines.
