LVUSD board should reconsider decision

I agree with Ray Pearl’s comments regarding Don Zimring. What I don’t agree with is the school board’s decision.

While it is nice to be printing letters “appreciating Don Zimring,” we should be taking action to protect him just as he has done for our children for the past three decades.

The board’s action in not renewing this man’s contract is incomprehensible. Instead of wishing him well and showing him the door, they should be trying to figure out how to keep him.

What is even more troubling is how this was done, smacking of political games rather than representing the interests of our community.

The problems our schools face need people like Dr. Zimring to solve. As parents, we get asked about everything from the school calendar to what should be served in the cafeterias for lunch. How interesting that the board never chose to ask our community if the superintendent should be let go. Instead, they kept it quiet until the incumbents were re-elected.

If you want to speak out, good luck—there are no board meetings until after the new year. So much for honesty and transparency in government.

While Dr. Zimring may refuse to comment on any of this, we as taxpayers have a right to challenge the board on this decision and demand they reconsider. They should remember that while they may have the power to get rid of Dr. Zimring, we have the power to get rid of the board.

I for one plan to be at their next meeting on Jan. 10 to request another vote or at least an explanation.
