Los Robles doctors use robot to treat prostate cancer

Los Robles Hospital and Medical Center recently announced that urologists Kyle Himsl, MD, and James Pero, MD, successfully performed the first robotic-assisted prostatectomy in Ventura County using the newest version of the da Vinci Si Surgical System.

“The robotic system greatly improves surgical capabilities by enabling the surgeon to see ana- tomical structures more clearly and perform surgical procedures more precisely,” said Himsl. “The robotic system is a fantastic surgical tool.”

Los Robles is the only hospital with the newest version of the da Vinci robot in Ventura County. Patients undergoing surgery with the da Vinci Si Surgical System tend to experience less pain, less blood loss and scarring, and less risk of infection.

“The clarity of the surgical field really improves the outcome of the surgery” said Pero. “Because this state-of-the-art technology is minimally invasive, patients are on the road to recovery sooner and with fewer side effects.”

The robotic system will also be used for gynecological procedures including hysterectomy and myomectomy.
