Looking for other Calabasas alumni

I serve as a director at Southwestern Law School in downtown Los Angeles. I am an alumnus of Calabasas High School, Class of 1994. I have served in higher education since earning my graduate degree from CSUN in 2004.

Recently, a student here at Southwestern Law School walked into my office, and, much to our mutual surprise, we came from the same town and attended the same high school. Matthew Soroky, Class of 2001, is a Calabasas High School alumnus and a fellow “theater geek,” as those of us under the guidance of the legendary CHS theater teacher and second father to most, Jim Gilchrist, were known as.

Recently, Matthew contacted “Mr. G,” Jim Gilchrist, to let him know about this charming reunion. It seems “one of Mr. G’s students is now the student of another one of Mr. G’s students.” Try to wrap your brain around that one. Matthew and I have shared wonderful memories of being students at CHS. I visit my parents who still live in the area, and I remember some wonderful times as a Coyote.

Oddly enough, when I was working at USC from 2005-07 in the executive MBA program of the Marshall School of Business, I found myself the program manager for an EMBA student whose children had been under my charge when I was a camp counselor at Meadow Oaks and Camp Keystone almost seven years ago, and I even babysat her daughters for a time. Those girls are now teenagers, and I don’t know where the time has gone.

What a small world Calabasas is in the field of
education. This then had me wondering, are there any other CHS alumni out there
serving in education who have now become the educators of the next generation of
Coyotes?
