The city of Westlake Village celebrates its 20th anniversary this year. In order to advertise the events coinciding with the birthday, a logo contest was created for Westlake Village students from kindergarten through fifth grade.

The winner is Kaitlyn Wilson, a fifth-grader from St. Jude’s Elementary School in Westlake Village, who presented a drawing based on the theme "I Love Westlake Village."

Kaitlyn designed a logo featuring the slogan "Westlake Village- It’s right up there."

Kaitlyn wanted to show that living in Westlake Village is indeed like living in heaven. Her drawing shows three clouds; one being heaven, another being Westlake Village. On the lower cloud is a sign-post pointing skyward. A tag line says, "It’s right up there."

"Her design was one that stood out from all the others," said Assistant City Manager Audrey Brown. "It was something very different than we’ve ever seen and it seemed to represent the city in a nice way."

Kaitlyn first learned of the logo contest when a city representative visited her class several months ago. Kaitlyn was one of almost a dozen to turn in a concept.

Many of the entries had lakes, sailboats and mountains, similar to the city’s current logo. Kaitlyn’s had the sky.

Kaitlyn was awarded a special plaque for her winning effort and was honored at a recent city council meeting.

Her design will be featured on Westlake Village’s 20th Anniversary publicity, including a special Concert in the Park invitation, visors, buttons and more.
