Locals make All-CIF teams

Coyote baseball’s Goosenberg honored

The CIF-Southern Section released its All-CIF teams for baseball and softball.

Five local players were named to All-CIF first teams in baseball.

Shawn Goosenberg, a senior shortstop and honors student for Calabasas High, is on the Division 2 team. Goosenberg is bound for Northwestern.

Simi Valley’s Owen Sharts and Camarillo’s Andrew Lucas join Goosenberg on the Division 2 squad. Sharts will pitch for the University of Nevada Reno while Lucas is heading to Cal State Northridge.

Grace Brethren’s Pierson Ohl is on the Division 3 team while Hillcrest Christian’s John Overby is on the Division 7 list.

In softball, Newbury Park junior pitcher Cory Carrillo is the Division 2 player of the year. Panther skipper Mike Dagan is the coach of the year for leading Newbury Park to its first section title in program history.

Maya Brady, an Oaks Christian star who verbally committed to UCLA, is on the Division 1 squad.

Alicia Estrada of Rio Mesa (Division 2), Jessica Ross of Calabasas (Division 4), Sydney Jenkins of Royal (Division 4), Olivia O’Neal of La Reina (Division 5) and Jessica Fontes of Grace Brethren (Division 5) are All-CIF selections.

No local players made All-CIF in boys’ volleyball.
