Local group supports veterans

Tuesday, Feb. 14 was the annual National Salute to Hospitalized Veterans. On that day we donated four wheelchairs to the Sepulveda Veterans Administration Hospital.

The post volunteers present were Mort Lavin, Stan Richstone, Stefania Spiegel, Sol Brejensky, Walter Greenberg and Joe Ettenberg. Two of the chairs were donated by Irv and Alma Golden and Jeannie Reiver, past commander of Post 101.

Marianne David, who is the Los Angeles VA chief of voluntary services, made the opening remarks and introduced those who participated. Participants included the L.A. Lakers cheerleaders, the Playmates, the Monroe High School ROTC and various other dignitaries.

I also must thank Paul Dwork of Merlin Medical Supplies for procuring the chairs for us and Mort Lavin for riveting the donation plaques on each chair.

Two additional chairs will be donated at a later date to the VA clinics in Camarillo and Ventura. Bernard I. Becker Post 123 of Ventura and the Conejo Valley Jewish War Veterans of the United States

Additionally, I contacted many of the local sports organizations. The one organization that came through the most was Agoura Pony Baseball. Two representatives from Agoura Pony Baseball came out and worked with every child who participated. These two men from Agoura Pony Baseball had a direct impact the success of the event.

Again, thank you to the community and all who participated. I clearly could not have done this alone. Brynna Steinhardt Senior Girl Scout Troop 2003 Agoura Hills
