Local events deserve your support,
we welcome a new superintendent

Two local events, both decidedly different, make this a special time of year.

In Thousand Oaks, Conejo Valley Days (CVD) goes into full swing with a carnival that continues tonight, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. There’s also the annual parade on Thousand Oaks Boulevard on Saturday morning. The carnival has exciting rides for all ages, lots of food and plenty of exhibitors. The site of the carnival is across from the Thousand Oaks Library on Janss Road, just east of the 23 Freeway. You can’t miss it, if you just go north on the 23 Freeway from the 101.

In Calabasas, it’s time again for the annual Arts Festival. Plenty of activities are planned and artwork can also be purchased. It’s near the library at The Commons shopping center. It will be in full swing from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on both Saturday and Sunday. Admission is free.

Take your significant other or your family to one event, if not both. At CVD and the Arts Festival, you can have a lot of fun without spending a lot of money.

Oak Park Unified School District has hired a new superintendent, Gary Richards, Ed.D.

Dr. Richards brings impressive credentials and experience. He appears to be a strong asset for OPUSD. And the district deserves a top candidate because of its reputation; the schools in Oak Park are exemplary.

Richards arrives as public schools in California face an uncertain future because of the state’s budget crunch. The greatest measure of initial success for Richards will be management of the budget.

He needs to get the most bang for his bucks, just like every superintendent in any school district of California. We warmly welcome him to Oak Park and wish him well.
