Society needs role models, and when a favorite son like Kobe Bryant, the NBA legend who devoted much of his time to the local youth basketball scene dies, hearts are devastated.
Last Sunday’s ill-fated helicopter ride was taking Bryant, his 13-year-old daughter, and seven others to the Mamba Sports Academy in Newbury Park for a basketball tournament. Gianna, affectionately called Gigi by her teammates, friends and family, was supposed to compete. Dad was the coach of his daughter’s team.
