In recognition of the Assistance League of Conejo Valley and its commitment to successfully preparing children for school to boost self-esteem and future success, the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Southern California (RMHCSC) Community Grants Board recently awarded the organization a $10,000 grant.

The funds will help expand the Operation School Bell program by providing an additional 100 disadvantaged elementary school children with new clothing, a voucher for shoes and a backpack filled with school supplies.

Since its founding in 1996, Operation School Bell has supplied local disadvantaged children with more than 3,700 backpacks and 700 pairs of shoes totaling more than $59,000 in donations.

Emergency Clothing Kits containing items for young children who have "accidents" at school were also provided to 34 schools. Recipients are identified through referrals from principals, teachers and counselors in local school districts.

RMHCSC is a nonprofit organization that improves the health and well-being of children in Southern California by developing, nurturing and increasing awareness of its lodging and wellness programs, and supporting organizations that serve these children.

The Assistance League of Conejo Valley is one of hundreds that have benefited from the RMHCSC Community Grants program, which helps young people lead healthier, happier, more productive lives.

To apply for RMHCSC funding, nonprofit organizations serving children in Los Angeles and Ventura counties can call the grants administrator at Porter Novelli at (310) 444-7000.
