Agoura Hills author Mary Ficalora spent many years of research while producing her candid report on the social, economic and political upheaval in America.

She discusses her findings in a new book, “Choosing Honor: An American Woman’s Search for God, Family and Country in an Age of Corruption,” which will be the topic of a Feb. 2 presentation at the Agoura Hills Library.

“The book is interesting and timely,” said Grace Bernard, a local librarian who organized the upcoming “Meet the Author” event to introduce Ficalora to area residents.

“Ficalora answers many questions that many people are asking now, and people are more open to hearing the answers,” Bernard said.

The book discusses world politics and economics, and, using social responsbility as its theme, it talks about the need for individuals to take ownership of global issues, Ficalora said.

“It serves as a guide to abandoning apathy, reclaiming personal honor and achieving a messianic consciousness to promote individual and community action through a series of secular absolutes,” according to Sam E. Robinson in New Age Retailer, quoted on Amazon.com.

Ficalora, a mother, substitute teacher and online video producer, blends historical accounts with pop culture references to illustrate what she calls “the workings of the powers that control our lives.”

Bernard, who assisted Ficalora with her research, said she was at first puzzled by the author’s requests for obscure monetary reports, but later realized that Ficalora was onto something interesting.

“Everything she talks about in the book is very relevant to today. The financial system has collapsed, and the system is corrupt, and it didn’t serve people well,” Bernard said.

Ficalora challenges common perceptions and encourages readers to abandon apathy and reclaim their personal principles at home and in the neighborhood.

“Honor requires us to be fearless in the face of these forces we have no control over,” Ficalora said.

Everyone has the responsibility to help solve the economic, moral and social problems that exist in America today, she said.

“We’re at a crossroads, and we need to rediscover the workings of money and demand that the changes taking place be aligned with our constitutional law,” Ficalora said.

All social conflicts, including wars and atrocities, are linked to monetary policies, she said.

“But now corruption is forcing a reconfiguration of the monetary system in the U.S. and worldwide,” Ficalora said, indicating that this is the time when people need to get involved.

National issues can be resolved through local activism, Ficalora said.

Supporting local businesses and buying local products keeps money in the community, and it helps the environment by reducing energy consumption needed to transport goods over long distances.

“It’s like an ecosystem,” Ficalora said. “Moving money out of the big banks and into community banks and credit unions also ensures that money stays in your community.”

“Choosing Honor” is available at Amazon.com.

The book is also available at the Agoura Hills Library and copies will be sold at Ficalora’s Feb. 2 presentation. The event starts at 6:30 p.m.
