T.O. Acorn editor embarks on a new adventure—retirement

My first official day of retirement was Sat., Sept. 25, and I’ll always remember it—at least for five minutes—because it was hotter than Hades.

I should know. I was helping my Kiwanis friends fix hot dogs for Coastal Cleanup Day at Borchard Park. It was already uncomfortable at 8 in the morning.

The next two days were even worse. On Sept. 27, the temperature in downtown L.A. hit 113, the hottest ever since they started keeping records in 1877. The weather service thermome...
