Lingering drought keeps firefighters on edge

Much of Southern California is now deep into a second year of “exceptional” drought, the most extreme level.
As a result, the amount of moisture in recent brush and grass samples from Ventura County’s hillsides is at the lowest level officials have ever seen, county firefighters said last week.
