Lindero Canyon Middle School to celebrate Blue Ribbon Friday

Lindero Canyon Middle School in Agoura Hills will celebrate its recognition as a National Blue Ribbon School tomorrow at 9:30 a.m., Fri., Dec. 15 with a gala assembly for 1,460 students and its staff, parents and the community-at-large. The program is planned to congratulate all of the entities that came together to earn the school the Blue Ribbon designation.

A school is awarded a National Blue Ribbon by demonstrating that it excels in all areas of academic leadership, teaching and teacher development, and curriculum.

In addition, the school must exhibit exceptional levels of community and parental involvement, high student achievement levels and rigorous safety and discipline programs within the school.

"It took all of us working together to earn this prestigious recognition, and we want to acknowledge publicly the result of our dedication to this kind of teamwork with a school and community wide celebration," said Ronald Kaiser, principal of the school since 1990.

The assembly program will include performances by Lindero’s award-winning fiddle group, choir and jazz band and will feature trumpeter Chuck Findley of the Tonight Show Band, a long-time mentor for the Lindero music program.

Also to be recognized for their contributions to Lindero’s success are the cities of Agoura Hills and Westlake Village, Las Virgenes Unified School District, the Getty Center and the California Science Center, KNBC for providing a Weathernet station, Charter Pacific Bank, Amgen and many other local community agencies and businesses.

After earning the distinction of being named a California Distinguished School for the 1998-99 school year, Lindero qualified to complete the rigorous 41-page nomination form for the National Blue Ribbon.

The school is at 5844 N. Larboard Lane. For additional information, call (818) 889-2134.
