Limo company told to relocate cars

The limousines and town cars

that were parked along Buttonwood Street in Oak Park have been

moved, said Bob Jones, an Oak

Park resident and owner of Media

Limousine.

The removal of the vehicles

puts to rest complaints filed by

homeowners on Buttonwood

Street, who were frustrated that the

cars owned by Media Limousine

were parked in the residential

neighborhood.

Jones explained that his company recently merged with another

livery service. He said the cars

were parked on Buttonwood because his lease at the Agoura Business Center was up on May 31.

“We knew we were moving the

business, so it didn’t make any

sense to sign a long lease simply

to store the limos for a few weeks,”

Jones said.

George Meyers, an officer with

the California Highway Patrol,

said Jones has agreed to park the

remaining limousine in his driveway at an angle so that it does not

block the sidewalk.

Jones said he plans on selling

the remaining vehicle soon.

The problem with oversized

vehicles has been a longstanding issue for the Municipal Advisory

Council. In 2001, a specific ordinance was written to help deal with

the problem.

The Oak Park Oversized Vehicle Ordinance states, “it is unlawful to park or leave standing

any oversized vehicle at any time

upon any highway with the Oak

Park Community.”

According to the ordinance, an

oversized vehicle is anything over

25-feet long.

An oversized vehicle may be

parked on the street for up to 72

hours if the owner is packing or

unpacking the vehicle for a trip.

Owners of oversized vehicles

are invited to request an application

for a parking permit by calling

Ventura County Supervisor Linda

Park’s office at (805) 373-2564.

All applications will be reviewed and voted on by the MAC.

To report an illegally parked

oversized vehicle, call the California Highway Patrol at (805)

530-1620.
