Calabasas' oldest tract was originally an artists' colony



Taryn Wayne of the Calabasas Historical Society will speak on the history of the oldest subdivision in Calabasas, Park Moderne, at the next meeting of the CanogaOwensmouth Historical Society at 7:30 p.m. Wed., May 13 at the historic 1935 fire station at 7248 Owensmouth Ave., Canoga Park.

Originally formed as an artists’ colony in 1927, Park Moderne is now known as “the bird streets.” The streets retain the original bird names such as Meadowlark, Bluebird and Blackbird.

The original art deco fountain styled in zigzag moderne design sits at the top of the remaining Indian trail, one of three previously in the area.

The museum is open to the public the second and fourth Sunday of each month from 2 to 4 p.m.
