Lawsuit against Pony League is sad, unfortunate

We experienced both dismay and sadness to read of the purported allegations and lawsuit against Agoura Pony Baseball by Mr. Atkinson-Barr.

Our son has been active in Agoura Pony Baseball for five seasons. We have never witnessed any of the strange or rude behaviors that Mr. Atkinson-Barr reports.

The boys on the teams are expected to be respectful of authority. They are taught the meaning of good sportsmanship and healthy competition. And, most importantly, they have fun.

We have never observed baseball families having tailgate parties, driving in a dangerous manner or littering the school campus. In fact, we are regularly cleaning up the fields after games, along with many other families.

What we have observed are parents and kids enjoying quality family time.

In addition, research indicates that children who participate in athletics learn to value and respect their bodies. Children who are active in sports are less likely to participate in drug or alcohol abuse.

How unfortunate that one person is trying to ruin this wonderful experience for so many.

We can only hope that our community rallies together to keep Agoura Pony Baseball strong.
