Steve Cooley, the newly elected Los Angeles County District Attorney, will be the keynote speaker at the Agoura/Las Virgenes Chamber of Commerce installation luncheon later this month.

Cooley defeated incumbent Gil Garcetti in the November general election.

The Agoura Hills luncheon will feature the swearing in of the Chamber’s new board of directors, including the newly elected president, Alex Soteras.

The 39-year-old Soteras was given much of the credit for revitalizing the Chamber’s lagging membership, which increased to almost 400 members last year.

Soteras, an Agoura Hills mortgage broker and Pepperdine University graduate, organized several key functions for the Chamber in 1999, including appreciation events for teachers and sheriff’s deputies. He also spearheaded a Casino Night fundraiser that benefited the Chamber and the Wellness Community, a nonprofit cancer support group.

Soteras said he wants the Chamber to honor the area’s firefighters as one of this year’s events.

New board officers to be installed are Don Dusablon, first vice president; Sal Amato, second vice president; Barry Garapedian, third vice president; Kristina Ferrin, secretary and Howard Lauterbach, treasurer.

New additions to the 15-member board are Garapedian, Lauterbach and Jim Rule, publisher of The Acorn newspapers.

The Jan. 30 installation is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. at the Renaissance Hotel in Agoura Hills.

Activities will include a State of the City address by Mayor Ed Corridori and an announcement of the annual Agoura Beautiful Award.
