Join in Backyard Bird Count

Mountains Restoration Trust invites individuals, families and groups of all ages to join the annual Great Backyard Bird Count at 8 a.m. Sat., Feb. 16 at MRT’s Headquarters Corner, 23075 Mulholland Hwy., Calabasas.

The even allows participants to learn about bird identification and behavior from experts.

Sponsored by Cornell University and the National Audubon Society, the bird count provides information about bird population trends to better serve conservation efforts. Last year more than 60,000 checklists were submitted to assist Cornell University with data compilation.

Andy Blake from the bird specialty store Wild Birds Unlimited in Woodland Hills, and Kris Ohlenkamp from the San Fernando Valley Audubon Society, will lead the bird count at Mountains Restoration Trust.

Reservations are required, and participants are asked to bring their own binoculars. To RSVP, call Susan Haugland at (818) 591-1701, ext. 212.
