Emmy award-winning Gordon Goodwin’s Big Phat Band and jazz vocalist Tierney Sutton will star in KCLU’s benefit jazz concert at 7 p.m. Sun., June 1 in the Scherr Forum Theatre at the Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza. All proceeds will benefit KCLU FM, Ventura and Santa Barbara counties’ home for National Public Radio and jazz.


One of the largest swing bands in Southern California, the Big Phat Band brings energy and "roaring live jazz" to the stage. Goodwin’s 19-piece big band recently received two Grammy nominations for its latest album, "Swinging for the Fences."


Vocalist Sutton is known for her unique, wide-ranging soprano voice and is described as "one of the hottest new vocalists in jazz."


Students from Lindero Canyon Middle School in Agoura Hills will provide free pre-show entertainment at 5:15 p.m. on the plaza grounds.
