It’s shameful
that Calabasas stopped helping Pumpkin Festival

What a shame the city of Calabasas has decided not to support the Pumpkin Festival. How time seems to change attitudes. As one of the original resurrectors of the festival, I remember what a pleasure it was for us to work with the city council toward a common vision. Our vision was to put Calabasas on the map and create a community event that would truly represent our values.

With this in mind, we chose to describe our festival as the Calabasas Pumpkin Festival: The Old West with a New Spirit: A Time for Family Fun.

We created an event that truly reflected this goal with crazy activities such as pumpkinseed spitting contests, pumpkin bowling, a pumpkin pie eating contest, a pumpkin recipe contest and other fun but low-tech events.

We did not glorify guns, we honored the environment and we celebrated our city.

It is very sad that the current city council no longer supports this reflection of our community.
