It is a problem

I was somewhat dismayed and concerned about this letter to the paper. I couldn’t fathom a reason why Mr. Robinson would be so concerned about banning plastic straws.

He was curious about the quote, “If human behaviors don’t change by 2050 there will be more plastic in the ocean by volume than fish.”

Sources for this statement and other facts are easily found from many different organizations, if one happens to look.

Recent articles describe the large amount of sea animals found with pounds and pounds of plastic in their stomachs, which, in many cases, has caused death.

The area in the Pacific, larger than the state of Texas, still exists and continues to increase.

I, for one, am more than willing to err on the side of caution regarding the safety of our planet.

Many of the voices that repeat the concerns of Mr. Robinson also deny there is climate change, though the vast majority of the scientific community says there is but, of course, they are only scientists.

I applaud the action of the city and hope that this is only the first step.
