Isham, Jones named CIF players of the year




Football awards keep rolling in for local gridiron greats.

This week, the LA84 Foundation announced its All-CIFSouthern Section teams.

In the CIF-SS Northern Division, Westlake High junior quarterback Nick Isham was named Offensive Player of the Year.

Jim Benkert, also of WHS, is the division’s Coach of the Year.

Area players on the Northern Division offensive team include Camarillo quarterback Jeff Mathews; Moorpark running back Austin Edmonson; wideouts Nelson Spruce (Westlake), Ryan Molesworth (Camarillo) and Phillip Muscarella (Newbury Park); offensive linemen Joe Frank (Moorpark), Michael Lorenzo (Westlake) and Tyler O’Rear (Camarillo); and Westlake place kicker Alex Ball.

Northern Division defensive members are defensive backs Joey Eckert (Moorpark) and Richard Mullaney (Thousand Oaks); linebackers Marc Palacios (Moorpark) and Adrian Muguerza (Westlake); Moorpark defensive lineman Quen Kantaris and utility player Brian Blechen; and Thousand Oaks punter Zack Hoffman.

In the CIF-SS Northwest Division, Oaks Christian senior running back/linebacker Malcolm Jones is the Defensive Player of the Year.

Offensive members on the Northwest Division team are Oaks Christian quarterback Nick Montana, lineman Erik Kohler and wideout Jordan Payton.

Oak Park cornerback Tyler Benton is on the division’s defensive team. Benton is joined by defensive linemen Cassius Marsh (Oaks Christian), Alani Fua (Oaks Christian) and Conner Phillips (Oak Park); and Oaks Christian linebacker Zac Stout.

In the East Valley Division, Grace Brethren wide receiver Jake Gilliland is a member of the offensive team.
